Position Summary

Location: St. Paul, MN

GTTSi is seeking an experienced Applied Data Scientist to independently develop and deliver advanced technical solutions that produce measurable business results.

The ideal candidate will combine data science, software engineering, machine learning, optimization, physics-based modeling, and AI-enabled development. This role requires strong technical ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to clearly communicate complex work to non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently lead complex technical projects from problem definition through development, deployment, and evaluation.
• Translate business and operational challenges into effective analytical and technical solutions.
• Develop solutions using machine learning, artificial intelligence, optimization, physics-based modeling, and other advanced analytical methods.
• Use AI-assisted development tools such as Claude or GitHub Copilot for coding, debugging, documentation, and prototyping.
• Collaborate with Data Science and Software Engineering teams on production systems, deployed models, and shared technical deliverables.
• Make independent technical decisions in fast-paced environments.
• Communicate technical approaches, project outcomes, and business value to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Document measurable results and identify opportunities for continued improvement.

Required Qualifications

• At least 10 years of relevant industry experience.
• Demonstrated experience independently owning and delivering complex technical solutions.
• Hands-on experience with machine learning, AI, optimization, physics-based modeling, and/or advanced analytics.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools as part of daily technical workflows.
• Experience working across Data Science and Software Engineering teams.
• Experience supporting production systems, deployed models, or shared technical products.
• Proven ability to connect technical work to measurable business outcomes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to explain complex technical projects clearly to non-technical audiences.

Preferred Industry Experience

Experience within one or more of the following industries is strongly preferred:

• Energy
• Utilities
• Industrial operations
• Logistics
• Other asset-intensive or operational environments
