A collaboration to develop a nuclear battery between Kronos Advanced Technologies and Yasheng Group is currently in the works. The battery will be powered by Nickel-63, converted from the beta decay into electrical energy.

What’s interesting about the battery is that it will have a life span of 50 years without ever having to recharge, making it a very reliable power source. With the long lasting power supply this battery will produce, it is attracting many potential markets. You will see the battery being utilized for medical devices, aerospace, satellite power and many other applications including military applications.

The technological advances and the ability to use the nuclear battery for pacemakers and artificial hearts could be groundbreaking for the medical field for obvious reasons. Could you imagine a world where you never have to charge your smartphone or electrical appliances in your home? It’s also important to recognize the pros and cons associated with nuclear energy more so highlighting environmental concerns such as disposal of these nuclear batteries. We should pay close attention in the months to come as patents in both China and North America will be submitted for the nuclear battery.
