SHOUT OUT TO OUR PARTNERS AT TVA’S WATTS BAR NUCLEAR PLANT
The GTTSi team recently visited one of GTTSi’s key clients at Tennessee Valley Authority Watts Bar Nuclear Plant in East Tennessee, USA.
Watts Bar Unit 1 began commercial operation in May 1996 and is licensed for operation through 2035. Unit 2 began commercial operation in October 2016. Combined, these two units produce enough power to supply about 1.3 million homes daily.
Said GTTSi‘s Clay Schile, “Big thanks to Michael “Joey” White and the training management team at Watts Bar. They highlighted the extensive work the whole site did in getting the unit up in 2016. The ongoing training work and “sim” were impressive – especially the earthquake scenario. It was eye opening seeing what the operators have to be trained to deal with to become licensed!”
The nuclear “sim” or simulator is used for training and qualification of nuclear personnel and is required to be an exact replica of the actual control room. How the modeling responds to equipment failures or design-based accidents is also tested and verified with the simulator, even earthquake scenarios.
Thank you to Leon Neat and Patrick O’Brien for their time during our visit and for their partnership with GTTSi to help enable the nuclear renaissance.
