Marco contends that Fundamentals Training addresses WHY we do things the way we do them and is not just about passing a test. Lack of adequate understanding of Nuclear Fundamentals contributed considerably to the industry’s most significant accidents. Fundamentals demonstrate why we must follow procedures and emphasize safety first, last, and always. The 10- to 12-week course consists of heat transfer, fluid flow, thermodynamics, reactor theory, nuclear plant components, basic nuclear plant chemistry, and electrical theory related to generator output reactive and capacitive loads.
After completing a degree in Physics and Math, Marco embarked on his nuclear journey with the US Navy when he was selected by Admiral Hyman Rickover for entry into the Nuclear Propulsion Officer Training Program. Upon completing his nuclear training, he served aboard the USS Portsmouth (SSN-707) during initial construction and testing.
As a Virginia Power Company employee (known today as Dominion Energy), he developed and implemented fundamentals training courses for Engineers and Reactor facilities. While at Dominion, he also completed License Training as a Certified Senior Reactor Operator.
Marco just recently completed an assignment with Dominion Energy, coming full circle and close to his home, teaching Fundamentals for License and Continuing Training.
