We celebrate the 4th of July in commemoration of the day when the thirteen colonies claimed their independence from England -July 4, 1776.
Although the 13 colonies were in conflict with England these brave men convened the Continental Congress, which ultimately resulted in our Declaration of Independence and the formation of these United States
During the June 7, 1776 session, in the Pennsylvania State House (later to be named Independence Hall), Richard Henry Lee of Virginia presented a resolution with these famous words: “Resolved: That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.”
