Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Applied Data Scientist who can independently develop and deliver complex technical solutions that produce measurable business results. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in data science, machine learning, optimization, AI, and/or physics-based modeling with strong communication, cross-functional collaboration, and technical leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently own complex technical projects from initial problem definition through development, deployment, and delivery.
• Apply physics-based modeling, machine learning, optimization, and AI techniques to solve operational and business challenges.
• Make informed technical decisions in fast-paced, evolving environments.
• Collaborate with Data Science and Software Engineering teams to build production systems, deploy models, and deliver shared technical solutions.
• Use AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude and GitHub Copilot, for coding, debugging, documentation, and rapid prototyping.
• Translate highly technical work into clear, concise explanations for non-technical stakeholders.
• Connect technical solutions to measurable business outcomes.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Proven experience independently leading and delivering complex technical solutions.
• Strong background in one or more of the following areas:
  • Applied data science
  • Machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Optimization
  • Physics-based modeling
• Experience working on cross-functional teams involving Data Science and Software Engineering.
• Demonstrated involvement with production systems, deployed models, or shared technical deliverables.
• Active experience using AI-assisted development tools as part of daily technical workflows.
• Ability to explain a previous technical project to a non-technical audience in one to two minutes, clearly covering:
  • The business problem
  • The technical approach
  • The measurable impact
• Documented examples of technical work that generated measurable business value.

Preferred Industry Experience

Experience within one or more of the following industries is strongly preferred:

• Energy
• Utilities
• Industrials
• Logistics
• Other operationally complex environments
