Transatomic Power was cofounded by 2 MIT Nuclear Engineering PHD students in 2010 and was later incorporated in 2011 with the mission to transform the nuclear power industry. Their idea is commercializing an innovative molten salt reactor that safely burns nuclear waste to deliver vast amounts of affordable clean energy to meet the world’s needs.
The new funding will be used for lab testing of key components involved with the reactor design, and for refinement of the design for a prototype reactor. The company will be testing materials under a three-year research agreement with the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering at MIT.
