President Biden is planning to visit South Carolina State University this Friday (December 17th). He is scheduled to provide the commencement keynote speech for the December graduating class of 138 students.
In addition, South Carolina Representative Jim Clyburn will also cross the stage to formally receive his degree. When he graduated in 1961 the university did not offer a formal ceremony in December and will take his celebratory walk with the president on stage.
S.C. State University Interim President, Alexander Conyers, said, “We have done some research and we have learned that this is the first time a sitting president has ever served as a commencement speaker for this institution in our 125-year history. It is a great day to be a bulldog”, referring to the university’s mascot. |
