Duke Energy Corp. is working on a plan for a major expansion of its training center capacity at the Shearon Harris Nuclear Plant site in New Hill, North Carolina.
The Charlotte-based power utility has filed a rezoning petition in Wake County to convert a 220-acre site it owns, next to the 930-megawatt generating unit on Jordan Lake, from rural residential to commercial industrial.
Documents filed with the county show that expansion of Duke’s New Hill Training Center would consist of construction of “a number of new buildings” plus parking lots, training courses and other infrastructure to support the training programs of the company’s nuclear personnel.
A Duke Energy spokeswoman says the new training center is expected to encompass about 70 acres of the 220-acre site, but she had no other details about the building plan for the center nor how much Duke expects to invest in the construction of the project.
Oh! That’s really great. A single nuclear power plant generating electricity for 5,50,000 homes, it’s amazing!
