The NRC has approved transfer of the operating license for the James A. FitzPatrick nuclear plant in upstate New York from Entergy Nuclear Operations to Exelon Corp. The NRC staff’s review of the license transfer application concluded that Exelon is financially and technically qualified to conduct the activities under the license, has satisfied the NRC’s decommissioning funding assurance requirements for the facility, and is not owned, controlled, or dominated by a foreign entity
This was the last approval required to complete the acquisition of the plant. The transfer will become effective March 31 once the NRC amends the license to reflect the change in ownership.
Exelon agreed to buy FitzPatrick in August of last year for $110 million after Entergy announced plans on closing the plant in January 2017, citing unfavorable economic conditions.
