More Wrangling and Posturing by Congress

Here we go again; more wrangling and posturing by Congress, and this time it affects the NRC and its full complement.

The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works hearing for Ms. Kristine Svinicki’s reappointment, as well as the nominations for Annie Caputo and David Wright, is scheduled for June 13, 2017.  However, EPW Ranking Member Tom Carper (D-DE) told reporters yesterday that he had asked EPW Chair John Barrasso (R-WY) to move forward with Svinicki and hold Caputo and Wright’s confirmation for review, or until they can be paired with a Democratic nominee.

Commissioner Jeff Baran is up for re-nomination next June, and it’s likely his hearing would need to wait until his re-nomination package is finished.

Note:  Pairing Republican and Democratic nominees to independent commissions is not unusual in Washington, but it will prolong the process
