TODAY, February 26th, New Jersey lawmakers are expected to vote on legislation that was finally approved by a joint Assembly and Senate committee last Thursday.
The legislation would offer Public Service Enterprise Group up to $300 million in assistance to keep its nuclear plants (Salem and Hope Creek) operating until 2035. It would be financed by the state’s utility ratepayers at a cost, estimated at $3.40 per month.
However, to get this bill past the committee, renewable energy requirements were added, which will guarantee that 35% of PSEG’s electric supply will be coming from renewable sources by 2035; up from its current value of only 3%.
