The House Committee on Rules has scheduled H.R. 3053, the Nuclear Waste Policy Amendments Act of 2018, for a hearing on Tuesday, May 8.

This Bill, sponsored by Representative Shimkus – Illinois, paves the way for House floor consideration later next week, most likely on Wednesday or Thursday.

 If passed, H.R. 3053 would amend the 1982 Nuclear Waste Policy Act by integrating federal nuclear waste management activities, providing for consolidated storage options, reforming the Nuclear Waste Fund, and permitting local stakeholders to engage directly with the federal government.
