Middle River Power, LLC (MRP), established in 2016, operates, manages, and develops more than 3.000 MW of natural gas, coal, geothermal and solar power generation facilities in California, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Recently, they announced plans to add 420 MW-hour of Battery Energy Storge in California.
North-Carolina based FlexGen Power Systems will provide the 420 MW-hour of battery energy storage, technology, and software at four California natural gas peaker plant sites. The batteries will be used to store excess power from solar energy sources during the day and release it when it is most needed during the evening hours. This results in significant reduction in gas turbine use during peak hours and lowers carbon emissions, while remaining available should the need require them. The software, FlexGen’s HybridOS, will also provide ancillary services, capacity and energy market trading.
