Late this week, the Santee Cooper utility board will meet to discuss an interim replacement for their CEO, Lonnie Carter. Mr. Carter announced his impending retirement last month after the South Carolina state-owned utility announced their abandonment of the V.C. Summer Construction Project on July 31, 2017.
Since Santee Cooper is a state-owned utility, the South Carolina Governor appoints all of the board members, and it is expected that Governor Henry McMaster is backing Steve Hamm. Mr. Hamm is the current interim Director of the State Ethics Agency.
Governor McMaster’s spokesman Brian Symmes calls Hamm an “agent of change” who will do what’s best for customers.
