Board members of Oglethorpe Power, 30% owners of the Plant Vogtle expansion project will vote by the end of September on whether to continue with the project following the new project cost increases.
Based on last summer’s cost review, Oglethorpe Power set aside $7 billion for its share of the project including $490 million in a contingency fund. Now with the latest cost escalation they would have their funding dwindle down to a negligible amount, World Nuclear Association reported.
With the capital costs expected to increase by nearly $1.5 billion, Oglethorpe’s share of this is estimated at $450 million.
